The Col de l'Iseran is the highest mountain pass in France and in all the Alps, at an elevation of 2764 m (9,068 ft). It is located in the department of Savoie, near the border of Italy, and connects the Isère valley with that of the Arc river, between Val-d'Isère in the north and Bonneval-sur-Arc in the south. It is crossed by the D902 road, officially opened on July 10, 1937 (construction work had started in 1929), which is usually closed in winter due to snow. It is included in the Vanoise National Park, created in 1963.
