Start Point is a promontory in the South Hams district in Devon, south-west England. Close to the most southerly point in the county, it marks the southern limit of Start Bay, which extends northwards to the estuary of the River Dart. The rocks of the point are greenschist and mica-schist, formed by metamorphism of Devonian sediments during a period of mountain building towards the end of the Carboniferous period. As a result of the many shipwrecks in the area, Start Point lighthouse was built in 1836 to alert ships to the danger of the point and its surrounding rocks.

Dyrhólaey ("door hill island"), formerly known by seamen as Cape Portland, is a small promontory located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík í Mýrdal. It was formerly an island of volcanic origin; The volcano erupted about 100 thousand years ago during the Pleistocene. The peninsula has an elevation of 120 m (390 ft), and the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, built in 1910 and rebuilt in 1927, sits at the top of the formation. In front of the peninsula, there is a gigantic black arch of lava standing in the sea, which gave the peninsula its name. Dyrhólaey and its surrounding cliffs are a paradise for bird watchers.

The Archipelago of the Pitcairn Islands (in Pitkern: Pitkern Ailen) is officially a British Overseas Territory. It includes the Pitcairn (the only inhabited), Oeno, Henderson and Ducie islands. Its capital is Adamstown, where the only settlement of the islands is located, located in the north-central part of Pitcairn, The islands of Henderson, Ducie and Pitcairn were discovered by a Spanish expedition under the command of the Portuguese navigator Pedro Fernandes de Quirós and his crew on January 26, 1606. A century and a half later, the islands were rediscovered by English sailors: Pitcairn in 1767, Ducie in 1791, Henderson in 1819 and Oeno in 1824. Pitcairn is known to be the home of descendants the mutineers on the Bounty ship and the Tahitians who accompanied them in 1790. With only 56 inhabitants from nine families, it is the least populated country in the world, although it is not a sovereign nation.

Tatrimoa is the Polynesian name for the Big Fence headland and cape, on the eastern shore of Pitcairn Island.

Later the place was controlled by Dutch, Danish, British and French as a seaport for timber traffic. A decree of December 12, 1891 gave the region, which encompassed the coastal settlements controlled by France, the name Côte d'Ivoire.

The Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias (Algarve, ca. 1450 - at sea, May 29, 1500) was the first European explorer to round the southern tip of Africa in early 1488, reaching the Indian Ocean from the Atlantic. His expedition, made up of two caravels (São Cristóvão and São Pantaleão) and a supply ship, left Lisbon in late July or early August 1487, and in late December reached a place near the mouth of the Orange River. After several incidents, sailing out to sea, on February 3, 1488 he reached today’s Mossel Bay, and On March 12, continuing east, the expedition reached its furthest point in the Indian Ocean, the mouth of the Bushman River, but the crew refused to go any further. On their return to Portugal they discovered Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the continent, and Cape das Tormentas, which the Portuguese king, John II, named Cabo da Boa Esperança (Cape of Good Hope) because it was the place where opened the rout to reach to India. Bartolomé Dias died on May 29, 1500 on a subsequent voyage when the ship in which he was sailing was sunk near the Cape in the middle of a storm.

Henricus Martellus Germanus (Nuremberg? Ca. 1440 - ?) was a German geographer and cartographer, named Heinrich Hammer, who lived and worked in Florence from 1480 to 1496. Between 1489 and 1491 he produced at least one map of the world showing novel adaptations of the model existing Ptolemaic, opening a passage to southern Africa and creating a huge new peninsula east of the Golden Chersonese (Malaysia). It is possibly based on maps created around 1485 in Lisbon by Bartholomew Columbus.

The place represented in the stamp is under discussion. It is mainly considered that it is the Cape Mesurado, but some catalogs mention the Cape Palmas.

The Cape Mesurado, also called Cape Montserrado, is a promontory on the Liberian coast, in the Mamba Point neighborhood, the northernmost of the capital, Monrovia, very close to the mouth of the Saint Paul River. It was named Cabo Mesurado by Portuguese sailors in the 1560s, who assured that the place was inhabited. The first African-American settlers settled in that place on April 22, 1822. In 1855 a lighthouse was built there. At the beginning of the 19th century and until 1815 there was a base for the slave trade.

The Cape Palmas is located in the southern Liberia town of Harper, just over 20 km (12 mi) from the Ivory Coast border. The International Hydrographic Organization considers this cape to be the westernmost point of the Gulf of Guinea and the dividing line of the Atlantic Ocean between North and South. The place was discovered in 1458 by the Portuguese navigator Diogo Gomes, who named it Cabo das Palmas.
