The Yangtze or Yangzi (Chinese: 長江) is the longest river in Asia. It is the longest in the world to flow entirely within one country (the current People's Republic of China). It rises at Jari Hill in the Tanggula Mountains (Tibetan Plateau) and flows 6,300 km (3,900 mi) in a generally easterly direction to the East China Sea. Its drainage basin comprises one-fifth of the land area of continental China. The Yangtze has played a major role in the history, culture and economy of China. For thousands of years, the river has been used for water, irrigation, sanitation, transportation, industry, boundary-marking and war. The Yangtze flows through a wide array of ecosystems and is habitat to several endemic and threatened species including the Chinese alligator, the narrow-ridged finless porpoise and the Yangtze sturgeon, but also was the home of the extinct baiji and Chinese paddlefish. In recent years, the river has suffered from industrial pollution, plastic pollution, agricultural runoff, siltation, and loss of wetland and lakes, which exacerbates seasonal flooding. Some sections of the river are now protected as nature reserves. A stretch of the upstream Yangtze flowing through deep gorges in western Yunnan is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A member of the first Bulgarian expedition to Mount Everest, he was also the first Bulgarian to reach the summit of the mountain on April 21, 1984, doing it via the most difficult way (the West Ridge) as well as alone and without oxygen. Climbing the summit at 18:15 local time, he had to descend overnight and got lost shortly after that. On the next afternoon, I have reported he had lost his gloves and soon would be unable to hold the radio button long enough to talk. His body of him was never found.

Chilean mountaineers Claudio Lucero, Gastón Oyarzún, Iván Vigoroux, Jorge Bassa, Jorge Quintero, Héctor Zúñiga, Rubén Lamilla, Nelson Muñoz and Claudio Gálvez participated in the first Chilean expedition to the Himalayas, and stated that on June 9, 1979 they reached the top of Mount Gasherbrum II. Mount Gasherbrum II (Urdu, گاشر برم -2; Chinese, 加舒 ), also known as K4 or Moravi II, is the thirteenth highest mountain on Earth and is located in the Karakoram mountain range (the westernmost sector of the Himalayas), on the border between the Gilgit-Baltistan region, in Pakistan, and the autonomous region of Xinjiang, in China. In 1856, Thomas George Montgomerie, a British member of the Royal Engineers, participated in the Great Trigonometric Topography Project expedition in Indian and Pakistani territory, sighted the mountain and named it K4, The first recorded ascent took place on July 7, 1956 by an Austrian expedition formed by Fritz Moravec, Josef Larch and Hans Willenpart.

K2, at 8,611 m (28,251 ft) above sea level, is the second highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. It is located in the Karakoram mountain range, partly in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and partly in a Chinese-administered territory of the Kashmir region included in the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang. After several failed attempts since 1902, the summit was reached for the first time on July 31, 1954 by climbers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, members of an Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio. The name K2 is derived from the notation used by the Great Trigonometric Survey of British India. In 1856, Thomas Montgomerie made the first survey of the Karakoram from Mount Harmukh, about 210 km (130 mi) to the south, and drew the two most prominent peaks, labeling them K1 and K2, where the K stands for Karakoram. The official name of the mountain in China is Qogir (乔戈里 ).

The first unofficially known Soviet expedition to the Himalayas consisted of six mountaineers, who unsuccessfully attempted to climb Mount Everest from Tibet in October 1952: all of them died in the attempt, which was hidden from view public opinion and even assured that such an expedition had not been carried out.
The expedition commemorating the stamp, in 1982, led by Evgeni Tamm (1926-2008), was successful: on May 4, eleven Soviet climbers reached the summit of Everest by a new route on the southwest face that was recognized as the most technically difficult to date.

In 1950, some 110,000 people, including a large number of soldiers, were summoned to build the first highways that linked Tibet with the rest of the People's Republic of China. They had rudimentary equipment and faced many dangers: until the work was completed, more than 4,000 workers lost their lives. The Qinghai-Tibet (1937 km, 1203 mi) and Sichuan-Tibet (2142 km, 1331 mi) highways were opened to traffic in 1954: they are the highest-altitude asphalt roads in the world and the first true communication routes with Tibet.
