The Yellow River or Huang He, formerly Hwang-ho, is a long river in central China that flows mainly in an easterly direction, through Qinghai, Gansu, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces and the autonomous regions from Inner Mongolia and Ningxia, to drain into the Bohai Sea. It is 5464 km (3,395 mi) long, making it the sixth longest river in the world. The source of the Yellow River is in the Bayan Har Mountains near the eastern edge of the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
