Świnica (Slovak: Svinica) is a mountain in the main crest of the High Tatras, on the Polish-Slovak border, with two peaks whose altitude differs by about 10 m (33 ft), separated by the pass named Świnicka Szczerbina Niżnia (2,279 m, 7,477 ft). The main peak is at 2,302 m (7,752 ft) above sea level and is located about 10 km (6 mi) as the crow flies from Zakopane. The first ascent to the highest peak, after several unsuccessful attempts, was made on July 22, 1867 by Polish climbers Maciej Sieczka, Eugeniusz Janota, Bronisław Gustawicz and Stanisław Librowski. Świnica is one of the most visited Tatra peaks by mountaineers today. The flower depicted on the stamp is a Clusius' gentian (Gentina clusii).

The Green Lake (Slovak: Zelené pleso) is a moraine lake in the Zeleného plesa Valley. It is located in the Tatra Mountains in the historic Kežmarok area in the north of the country, at an altitude of 1,545 m (5,069 ft) above sea level. It has an area of 1.7855 ha and 4.5 m (14.76 ft) deep. Its striking greenish color has given rise to various legends, incorporated into Slovak folklore. In the stamp you can view the mountain known as Čierny štít (‘Black Shield’), at 2,429 m (7,969 ft).

The Studenovodské Waterfalls (Slovak: Studenovodsky vodopád or Vodopády Studeného), formerly known as Kolbach Falls, are a complex of waterfalls in the High Tatras, located at an altitude between 1,153 and 1,276 m (3,783 and 4,186 ft). The highest of the waterfalls is just 13 m (42.6 ft), but the complex, formed on the threshold of a triple glacial valley, is wide: it is approximately 1.5 km (0.93 mi) in length. It was one of the oldest tourist destinations in the Tatra Mountains.

Skalnaté Lake (Slovak: Skalnaté pleso) is a moraine lake in the lower karst of the Rocky Valley (Skalnata dolina), in the High Tatras, Prešov Region, at an altitude of 1754 m (5,755 ft). It is located at the foot of Lomnica Peak (Lomnický štít), visible on the stamp, to which it is connected by a cable car. As a result of human intervention, the lake’s ability to retain water has been seriously affected: its area has been reduced to 1.23 hectares and a depth of just 2 m (6.56 ft).

Mount Krzesanica (Czech and Slovak: Kresanica), at 2,122 m (6,962 ft) in altitude, is a mountain in the Western Tatras, located on the border between Poland and Slovakia, about 8 km (5 mi) south of Zakopane. It is integrated into the Tatra National Park (Tatrzański Park Narodowy). Its top is almost a horizontal stony platform, about 100 m (328 ft) long, descending to the north side. About fifty caves have been discovered in the mountain, the deepest of which is 166 m (545 ft). Different types of plants grow in its limestone, as the Silene acaulis, the Campanula alpina, the Geum montanum, the Pulsatilla alpina, the Ranuculus alpestris and the Gentiana verna (present in the stamp).

The Bielovodská Valley (Slovak: Bielovodská dolina), on the border between Slovakia and Poland, is the only valley in the Alpine Tatras and the longest of all the Tatras: it is more than 10 km (6.20 mi) and during the Last Glacial Period, there was a glacier 14 km (8.70 mi) long and more than 300 m (984 ft) thick. The water flows through the Biela voda (Polish: Białka) River.

The Giewont is a mountainous massif in the Tatra Mountains of Poland. Its highest summit, Great Giewont (Polish: Wielki Giewont), is 1,895 m (6,217 ft) above sea level and is the highest peak in the Western Tatras (Tatry Zachodnie), located entirely within the borders of Poland. The mountain is considered the symbol of Zakopane and the Polish Tatras and throughout history it has been the subject of many legends, poems and works of art. The mountain is located within the Polish Tatra National Park (Tatrzański Park Narodowy) and is made up of three peaks: Small Giewont (Mały Giewont, 1,728 m, 5,669 ft), Great Giewont (Wielki Giewont, 1,895 m, 6,217 ft) and Long Giewont (Długi Giewont, 1,867 m, 6,125 ft). The flora is represented on the stamp by the Leontopodium alpinum (edelweiss).

Lomnica Peak (Slovak: Lomnický štít), at 2,634 m (8,642 ft) above sea level, is one of the highest peaks in the High Tatras of Slovakia. There is a solar observatory and a weather station with permanent staff throughout the year. Since 1940 the summit can be reached by cable car. Local shoemaker and amateur miner Jakab Fábry stated that he made an ascent between 1760 and 1790, but the first recorded ascent was made by English traveler and guide Robert Townson on August 16, 1793.

The Slovak Tatra National Park (there is another in Poland) covers an area of 738 km2 (284.9 square miles). It was established on January 1, 1949 and is the oldest national park in Slovakia; in 1987 a section of the Western Tatras was added to it. In 1992, together with the Polish park, it was declared a transboundary biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Gerlachovský štít (Gerlach Peak), at 2,655 m (8,711 ft), is the highest peak in the High Tatras, in Slovakia, and in the entire Carpathian mountain range. The first confirmed ascent was made by Ján (Johann) Still, from the town of Nová Lesná, in 1834. In the Austro-Hungarian Empire it was known as Franz Joseph Peak, in homage to the emperor.
