Skalnaté
Lake (Slovak: Skalnaté pleso) is a moraine lake in the lower karst of
the Rocky Valley (Skalnata dolina), in the High Tatras, Prešov Region, at
an altitude of 1754 m (5,755 ft). It is located at the foot of Lomnica Peak
(Lomnický štít), visible on the stamp, to which it is connected by a
cable car. As a result of human intervention, the lake’s ability to retain
water has been seriously affected: its area has been reduced to 1.23 hectares
and a depth of just 2 m (6.56 ft).
