Corregidor Island (Tagalog: Pulo ng Corregidor) is an island located at the entrance of Manila Bay in the southwestern part of Luzon in the Philippines. Its surface area is 5.49 km2 (2.12 sq mi), and its maximum height is 179.5 m (589 ft). Due to this location, Corregidor has historically been fortified with coastal artillery batteries to defend the entrance of Manila Bay and Manila itself from attacks by enemy warships. During World War II, the island played an important role during the invasion and liberation of the Philippines from the Imperial Japanese Army. The island was heavily bombarded during the later part of the war, where the ruins serve as a military memorial to American, Filipino, and Japanese soldiers who served and lost their lives on the battlefield.

Tuberculosis is one of the oldest diseases affecting humanity, it is estimated that it is between 15,000 to 20,000 years old. The fight against this disease goes back a long way, but only from the 17th century began to use substances from America in Europe (cinchona, coffee, tea, cocoa and tobacco). In the 18th century it was proposed to transfer the sick to the countryside to exercise and follow a proper diet in a healthy environment, and the application of a therapy consisting of bloodletting, emetic, purgative, balms, expectorants or opium. In the middle of the 20th century, the antibacterial properties of the Streptomyces griseum fungus were discovered, which in 1944 gave rise to the development of streptomycin. From that moment on, new treatments were developed, but although it has been reduced, the disease has not yet disappeared. The Cross of Lorraine was adopted as a symbol of the fight against tuberculosis at an international congress on the disease held in Berlin in 1902, as a suggestion of French physician Gilbert Sersiron.

Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat (1581-1671), seventh Sultan of Maguindanao, ruled the island of Mindanao (southern Philippines) from 1619 until his death, while the Spanish colonization took place. He was a direct descendant of Shariff Kabungsuwan, a Malay-Arab Johor nobleman who brought Islam to Mindanao. Like other Muslim rulers in the south of the archipelago, he successfully fought the invaders and hindered the spread of Catholicism. In 1635, however, he accepted an alliance treaty of mutual aid and protection with Imperial Spain and gave the Jesuits the privilege of building a church in the capital of the sultanate, Lamitan (now Baras), but thirteen years later hostilities returned, with clear superiority of the sultan, who was victorious in most skirmishes and maintained control of their territories. He was a scholar of Islamic jurisprudence and, upon his death, was considered a "holy man".

Taal Volcano (in Tagalog: Bulkang Taal) is a large caldera filled by Taal Lake located in the province of Batangas, Luzon Island. It is the second-most active volcano in the Philippines. The caldera was formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BC. Between 1572 and 2020 there were some 50 eruptions, the largest of which, in 1754, lasted from May 15 to December 12; one of the most devastating, on January 27, 1911, caused several earthquakes that alerted even the city of Manila, 60 km (37 mi) away, and caused the death of some 1,100 people. The 1965 eruption was classified as phreatomagmatic, generated by the interaction of magma with the Taal Lake water, and produced a violent explosion that devastated several villages on the shores of lake and killed about 100 people.

Lake Taal, formerly known as Lake Bombón, is a freshwater volcanic crater lake in the province of Batangas, on the island of Luzon. The lake fills a large caldera of the Taal volcano formed by large eruptions between 500,000 and 100,000 years ago. Its length is 25 km (16 mi) and its width is 18 km (11 mi). It has an area of 234.2 km2 (90.4 sq mi) and its average depth is 100 m (330 ft). Until the beginning of the 18th century, the lake had an outlet to the sea and was navigable, but a series of eruptions from the Taal volcano, which ended in 1754, blocked that outlet and caused several populations to be submerged by rising water levels.
