Jiuzhaigou
or Valley of the Nine Villages (九寨沟 in Chinese; གཟི་ རྩ་
སྡེ་ དགུ
in Tibetan) is a nature reserve and national park located in Nanping cantón (Sichuan
province). It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992 and a World
Biosphere Reserve in 1997. It is part of the Min Mountains and is famous for
its waterfalls, lakes and snow-capped peaks. Its elevation varies between 2,000
and 4,500 meters. The Nuorilang Waterfall (诺 日 朗 瀑布), one of the largest in China, is
located in the center of the valley, at an altitude of 2,365 m (7,759 ft). Its
height is 20 m (66 ft) and its width is 270 m (886 ft). An observation deck
built on the opposite side offers a full view of the waterfall.
