Benedetto Bordone (Padua, 1450-1530) was an Italian miniaturist, cartographer and geographer of the Republic of Venice. Educated at the school directed by Andrea Mantegna and Giovanni Bellini, he belonged to the group of Venetian printers who distinguished themselves for their elegance and precision. In 1528, two years before his death, he published a work that summarizes his inclination as a cartographer and geographer: the Libro di Benedetto Bordone nel qual si ragiona de tutte le isole del mondo (which in successive editions was simply titled Isolario), in the it represents all the known islands of the world with their ancient and modern names.
