The Inter-American Development Bank is an international financial organization based in the city of Washington D.C. (USA), and created in 1959 with the purpose of financing economic, social and institutional development projects and promoting regional trade integration in the Latin American and Caribbean area through loans to governments and government agencies. It is the largest regional development financial institution of this type and its origin dates back to the Inter-American Conference of 1890. Although it was born within the Organization of American States (OAS) it has no relationship with that institution or with the Monetary Fund International (IMF) or with the World Bank. Its official languages are English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
