Johan
Månsson (? -1659), captain of the Swedish Admiralty and in charge of training
the Crown pilots, designed in 1644 the first Swedish nautical chart (where the
Baltic Sea was represented without the Gulf of Bothnia), known as Een
siö-book som aconhåller om siöfarten i Östersiön, at a scale of 1:
2,500,500, which was engraved by Sigismund Vogel and published in 1645. The map
was dedicated to Queen Kristina, but was hardly helpful in navigation due to
its large scale.
