The island of Vilsandi, in the Baltic Sea, is located to the west of the island of Saaremaa, on which it depends administratively. It has an area of 9.4 km2 (3.63 sq mi), its length is 6.3 km (3.91 mi) and its maximum width is 2.3 km (1.43mi). It is connected by sea to the port of Papissaare, in Saaremaa. It was mentioned for the first time in 1645 with the Swedish name of Fylsandt. The island and its surroundings are part of the Vilsandi National Park. The lighthouse featured on the stamp, built in 1809, is located at the western end of the island.
