The
official name of the Ziqlab dam became the Sharhabeel Bin Hassnah Dam when it
was inaugurated by the King Huissen, and is popularly known as Sharhabeel Dam.
It was built in 1967 in the course of the Wadi Ziqlab, a tributary of the
Jordan River, in northern Jordan. It has a capacity of 4.3 million m3 (1,518 M ft3) and is fed by the aforementioned wadi, a seasonal watercourse.
It also receives water from several nearby springs. It is used for irrigation
and, depending on its availability, supplies water to the Water Authority of
Jordan. It is nestled in the Jordan EcoPark, a nature reserve managed by EcoPeace Middle East,
established in 2004 and officially opened on April 12, 2011.
