Stora Sjöfallet National Park (in Swedish, Stora Sjöfallets nationalpark), established in 1909, is located in Norrbotten county in northern Sweden, in the municipalities of Gällivare and Jokkmokk, 26 km (16.15 mi) from the Arctic Circle and near the border with Norway. Its area is 1,278 km² (494.4 sq mi). Inside is the lake system of the Lule River. It is part of Natura 2000, the network of protected areas of the European Union. The park takes its name from the large waterfall of the same name (Stour Muorkkegårttje in the Sámi language) on the Lule River. In the park is the Akka Massif (Áhkká, in the Sámi language), in the Scandinavian Alps, whose highest summit is the Stortoppen (Sarektjåkkå), 2,015 m (6,611 ft).
