In
January 1973, the postal code system was established in Hungary, dividing the
country into nine regions with the following centers: 1, Budapest; 2,
Szentendre; 3, Hatvan; 4, Debrecen; 5, Szolnok; 6, Kecskemet; 7, Sárbogárd; 8,
Székesfehérvár; and 9, Győr. The codes consist of four digits, the first of
which indicates the region.
