The Rappbode Dam (German: Rappbodetalsperre) is the largest dam in the Harz region as well as the highest dam in Germany. It is located on the course of the river Rappbode. It was built between 1952 and 1959. Its height is 106 m (348 ft) and its length is 415 m (1,362 ft). The lake behind the dam acts primarily as a reserve drinking water reservoir for the towns east of the Harz. The reservoir also contributes to generation of hydro-electric power to a small extent.
