Gosaikunda
(Nepali: गोसाइकुन्ड) is a small oligotrophic freshwater
alpine lake in the Langtang National
Park, Rasuwa
District, located in the Himalayas at an altitude of 4,380 m (14,370 ft),
with an area of 0.14 km2 (0.05 sq me). It drains into the Trishuli River and
remains frozen from October to June. The Gosaikunda area is considered a site
of religious importance, as Hindu mythology describes it as the abode of the
gods: legend has it that the lake was formed when the Hindu god Shiva drove his trident (trishula)
into the ground to obtain water.
