Templet
Mountain is located north of Sassenfjorden, in the Sassen-Bünsow
Land National Park. It stands 766 m (2,513 ft) above sea level, and is made
up of many horizontal strata of shale, limestone, and silicon-carbon rocks. The
characteristic little peak on the western edge of the mountain (visible in the
stamp) is called Skiltvakten and protects the entrance to Gipsdalen. The mountain owes
its name to its appearance, which from a distance resembles that of a Gothic
temple in ruins due to the rocks carved vertically by the waters the thaw.
