Vergi
is a village of about 80 inhabitants in the municipality of Haljala, on the shores
of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea), in the Lääne-Viru County.
It was formerly a fishing village: its Fishermen's Association was founded in 1905.
When the USSR occupied Estonia, between 1940 and 1941, fishing was prohibited
and an observation and watchtower of the Soviet border guard was installed in
the town. The lighthouse was built in 1936.
