The Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam (Russian: Саяно-Шушенская гидроэлектростанция) is located on the Yenisei River, near Sayanogorsk in Khakassia (Russian Federation). Its construction began in 1963, and its power plant was put into operation in two phases, the years 1978 and 1985. The gravity arch dam is 242 m (794 ft) high, with a crest length of 1,066 m (3,497 ft), a crest width of 25 m (82 ft), and a base width of 105.7 m (347 ft). The dam is served by a tram line that connects with the city of Cheryomushki.
