Velebit is the largest, but not the highest mountain range in Croatia. The mountain range is part of the Dinaric Alps and is located along the Adriatic coast. Its highest peak is the Vaganski vrh at 1,757 m (5,764 ft). The important characteristic of Velebit is its simple and solid form, rigid cliffs and the nakedness of the sea side. The basic geological feature of mountains is karst; flora and fauna are abundant. Velebit as a whole is a natural park, divided into two national parks: Paklenica and Sjeverni Velebit (North Velebit).
