The
Paikryung or Baengnyeong Island (Korean: 백령도) is located in the Yellow Sea, west of the
Ongjin Peninsula (North Korea), on the border between the Republic of Korea and
North Korea, so it is usually a politically conflictive place. It is the
westernmost point of South Korea. It has an area of 45.8 km2 (17.7
sq mi); its length is 8.45 km (5.25 mi) and its maximum width is 12.56 km (7.80
mi). Its population is about 4,250 inhabitants.
