The Norwegian Geographical Service (Norges geografiske oppmåling, NGO) was founded by Heinrich Wilhelm von Huth on December 14, 1773. Norwegian prospecting began with scientifically based triangulation in 1779, maritime and coastal prospecting, in 1785, and his own map printing and reproduction facility, in 1854: the first published map was a marine map of the Trøndelag coast, from Halten to Leka, in 1835.
