Dunn's
River Falls (also known in Spanish as Las Chorreras) is a famous
waterfall near Ocho Rios,
Northern Jamaica. At about 55 m (180 ft) high and 180 m (600 ft) long, the
waterfalls are terraced like giant natural stairs though some incorporate
man-made improvements. Several small lagoons are interspersed among the
vertical sections of the falls. They empty into the Caribbean Sea at the
western end of a white-sand beach. The falls were the location where the Battle of Las
Chorreras took place on October 30, 1657, when the British defeated a
Spanish expeditionary force from Cuba.
