Jounieh
(جونيه) Bay is located on the Mediterranean coast, a few kilometers south of
the Lebanese capital, Beirut. On its shores is the city of the same name,
capital of the Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate,
famous for its port, its spa, its casino and its nightlife. The largest
population of Maronite
Catholics in the world is concentrated there. It is estimated that in 2016
the city had a population of 115,000 inhabitants (430,000 with its metropolitan
area). On its territory is the Beirut
International Airport. A cable car takes passengers up the mountain to the
shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa.
