Tabarja
(Arabic: طبرجا) is an ancient coastal village situated in Kesrouan district,
on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, about 28 km (17 mi) north of Beirut.
The main attraction of the town is its fishing port, where Saint Paul is said to
have set sail on one of his missionary trips to Europe. The town has a long
historical past, and there are remains of the Greek, Roman and Byzantine
civilizations, the Crusades and the Ottoman Empire. It is currently a tourist
and summer resort. Tabarja suffered severely from the effects of the Lebanese Civil War.
