The
Tomebamba River rises in the Cajas National Park,
in the sector called "Tres Cruces", at 3,020 m (9,908 ft) altitude,
and runs through the city of Cuenca. When it joins
the Machángara
River, it forms the Cuenca
River, which is a tributary of the Paute River. The Tomebamba water after
passing through other rivers reaches the Amazon River and then the Atlantic
Ocean. Including the headwaters, its total length is 42 km (26 mi).
