The Duratón River Gorges Natural Park (Spanish: Parque Natural de las Hoces del Río Duratón) covers an area of 5,037 hectares (12,450 acres) in the province of Segovia, Community of Castile and León; It extends over land in the municipalities of Sepúlveda, Sebúlcor and Carrascal del Río. It was established on June 27, 1989. The park contains a series of 100 m (330 ft) high gorges that were formed by the Duratón River, a tributary of the Douro. It is home to a population of griffon vultures, along with Egyptian vultures, common kestrels, and peregrine falcons. The park space has been occupied by humans since prehistoric times; The oldest finds are Neolithic ceramics dating from 3000 BC. The gorges were classified as a Special Protection Area, becoming part of the Natura 2000 Network in April 1991 and declared a Site of Community Importance (SCI) in January 1998.
