The
Rhumel Gorges are formed by the Rhumel River (Arabian: وادي
الرمال), in the Constantine
Province. The Sidi M'Cid (جسر سيدي مسيد) suspension bridge, in the city of Constantine,
crosses the gorge at a height of 175 m (575 ft) above the river: construction
began in 1909, and was opened to traffic on April 19, 1912; it is 164 m (538
ft) long and 5.70 m (18.70 ft) wide. The bridge was designed by the French
engineer Ferdinand
