The Point Pelee National Park (Parc national de la Pointe-Pelée) is located in the southwest of the province of Ontario. It consists of a peninsula of land, primarily forest and salt marsh habitats, stretching into Lake Erie, very close to the United States border. Its total area is 15 km2 (5.8 sq mi). It is the southernmost continental area of Canada. It was created in 1918. Before the park was created, the Great Lakes Ornithological Club was established in that area to study bird migration.
