François Desbruslins (1709-17??) was a French engraver active in Paris from approximately 1729 to 1757. He engraved numerous maps for various French cartographers. The map reproduced on the stamp, engraved by Desbrulins in 1740, is the work of the French cartographer, architect and draftsman Philippe Buache (Paris, February 7, 1700 - January 24, 1771), who in 1729 was named the King's First Geographer. In 1739 he released a map that represents the south pole of the Earth, mentioned with frequency as an indication of a knowledge of the Antarctic continent in remote times, even before it was covered by glacial ice. He was a member of the French Academy of Sciences and stood out especially for having established the division of the globe by river and sea basins, subordinate to each other. He have published, among other geographical works, an Carte physique et profil du canal de la Manche et d'une partie de la mer du Nord où se voit l'état actuel des profondeurs de la Mer (1751) and numerous memoirs.
