Kluane National Park and Reserve are two protected areas in the southwest corner of the territory of Yukon, bordering British Columbia to the south and Alaska to the west. It was provisionally established in 1972 waiting to negotiate its legal status with the natives of the place, and in 1993 it became definitively a National Park with an area of 22,013 km2 (8,499 sq mi), while the eastern part, about 5,900 km2 (2,300 sq mi) was left as a reserve. The park is home to Canada's highest mountain, Mount Logan, at 5,959 m (19,551 ft), which is part of the Saint Elias Mountains. Mountains and glaciers cover 83% of the park area.
