Rondane
National Park (in Norwegian, Rondane nasjonalpark) is the oldest in
Norway. It is located in Innlandet
County and was created on December 21, 1962 to protect one of the most
ecologically rich areas in the country. In the park there are ten peaks over
2,000 m (6,560 ft) above sea level: Rondeslottet (2,178 m),
Storronden (2,138 m), Høgronden (2,114 m), Midtronden (2,060 m), Vinyóden
(2,044 m) , Midtronden (2,042 m), Trolltinden (2,018 m), Storsmeden (2,016 m),
Digerronden (2,015 m) and Veslesmeden (2,015 m. In 2003 the park was expanded,
which currently has a total area of 963 km² (372 sq mi). At the center of the
Park is Lake Rondvatnet.
The landscapes of Rondane have inspired many Norwegian writers, probably the
best known work being Peer Gynt (1867) by Henrik Ibsen.
