Afghanistan
is a multi-ethnic landlocked country in the interior of Asia. Its capital is Kabul. It shares borders with
China, Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. There are no
precise data on its total area, which would be, according to different sources,
between 645,800 and 652,200 km² (249,345 and 251,815 sq mi). Its estimated
population would also be, according to sources, between 28,200,000 and
33,610,000 inhabitants. Since the 1970s, the country has been embroiled in a
series of military conflicts, the most extensive of which have been the Afghan-Soviet
war (1979-1989) and the US invasion (2001-2014).
