The Postal Union of the Americas and Spain (Unión Postal de las Américas y España, UPAE), which in 1990 was expanded and renamed Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (Unión Postal de las Américas, España y Portugal, UPAEP), is an association of the postal authorities of 26 countries. It was founded in 1911 as Unión de Correos Sudamericanos (Union of South American Posts) at the initiative of Francisco García y Santos, General Director of the Uruguay Post Office; between 1921 and 1931 it was called Unión Postal Panamericana (Pan-American Postal Union). It is part of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) as a restricted union. It is based in Montevideo, Uruguay. Its first antecedent was the Unión Grancolombiana, created in 1838 and made up of Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.
