Mount
Tabor (Hebrew: הר תבור) is located in Lower Galilee, east of
the Jezreel Valley,
17 km (11 mi) west of the Sea
of Galilee, in Israel. Its height is 575 m (1,886 ft). Its Arabic name is
Jebel a'tur (جبل طابور), and it is also known as Itabyrium and the Mount of
Transfiguration. It is believed to be the site of the Transfiguration
of Jesus. An unidentified 19th century painting is reproduced on the stamp.
