The Pyhäkoski hydroelectric power station is located in Muhos (Oulu province, North Ostrobothnia region) and is the third power station upstream of the Oulujoki river. It has been designed by the architect Aarne Ervi. Construction began in February 1941 and was halted during WWII; when the war ended in autumn 1944, construction continued at full capacity. Concrete work for the reservoir was completed in 1948 and the water was able to be raised to its maximum regulating height, 32 m (105 ft). The machinery was installed after this. The first set of machinery was connected to the electrical grid in April 1949, the second and third in 1951.
