Maameltein
or Jounieh Bay is located in the Keserwan district,
about 16 km (10 miles) north of Beirut; its main center is the town of Jounieh (Arabic: جونيه), of
about 100,000 inhabitants, known for its spas and lively nightlife, as well as
its old stone souk, ferry port, and the Casino du Liban. A
cable car (le téléphérique) takes passengers to the 650 m (2,132 ft)
high mountain of Bkerké
(Arabic: بكركي), where the Maronite sanctuary of
Our Lady of Lebanon is located.
