The population census carried out in July 1950 resulted in 51,944,397 inhabitants, which represented an increase of 26.2% compared to the previous census, in 1940. In the 2020 census, the country's population was 211,476,000 inhabitants. The first unofficial census was taken in Brazil in 1550 and gave an estimated population of 15,000, a figure that had doubled fifty years later. The first official census was taken in 1876.
