Haminalahti
is a small village located west of the city of Kuopio, birthplace of the
painter and ornithologist Ferdinand von Wright
(1822-1906), of Scottish descent, author, among other, of the work represented
on this stamp, entitled Talvimaisema Haminalahdelta (‘Winter landscape
from Haminalahti’), dated 1856, painted on the shores of Lake Kallavesi.
