Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on a small peninsula at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Mediterranean Sea, bordering on the land with Spain. For the United Nations, Gibraltar, as a colony, is one of the Non-Self-Governing Territories under the supervision of its Special Committee on Decolonization. According to article X of the Peace of Utrecht (1713), "the city and castles of Gibraltar, together with its port, defenses and fortresses" would be a property in perpetuity of the British Crown in territory of Spanish jurisdiction. The territory of Gibraltar has an area of 6.8 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and its estimated population, in 2020, was 34,000 inhabitants. Its highest point is the Rock of Gibraltar (Spanish: Peñón de Gibraltar), at 426 m (1,398 ft).
