Nuuksio National Park (Finnish: Nuuksion kansallispuisto; Swedish: Noux nationalpark) was established in 1994. The park spreads over an area of forests and lakes in Espoo, Kirkkonummi and Vihti, in Uusimaa County. The name is derived from the Nuuksio district of Espoo. It has an area of 53 km2 (20 sq mi). The area is home to dozens of endangered or near-threatened animal, plant and fungal species, for example, the Siberian flying squirrel, the European nightjar and the lark; there are also virgin forests, peat bogs and traditional biotopes, especially meadows. At its highest point, the area reaches 110 m (361 ft) above sea level.
