Oran (Arabic: وَهران) is a major coastal city located in the north-west of Algeria, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is considered the second most important city of the country after the capital Algiers, due to its population, commercial, industrial, and cultural importance. Its metropolitan area has a population of some 2,250,000 inhabitants. The city, according to tradition, was founded in 903 by Andalusian Umayyad traders. Its port is considered one of the important ports in each of the fields of trade and marine transportation. The view that appears on the stamp is taken from the Fort of Santa Cruz.
