The
Kanmon Bridge (関門橋) is a three-span suspension bridge crossing the Kanmon Straits, a
stretch of water separating the Japan's islands of Honshū and Kyūshū. It connects the towns
of Shimonoseki, on the
island of Honshū, and Kitakyushū,
on the island of Kyūshū. It was opened to vehicles on November 14, 1973. The
central length of the bridge is 1,068 m (3,504 ft). Its height from the bottom
of the beam to sea level is 61 m (200 ft).
