Lošinj
is an island in the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, northern Adriatic Sea, in the Kvarner Gulf. It is part
of the Primorje-Gorski
Kotar County. Island’s area is 74.36 km2 (28.71 sq mi), his
length 33 km (20.5 mi) and its width 0.25–4.75 km (0.16–2.95 mi). The highest
elevations of the island are the mountains Televrin (also called Osoršćica) at
588 m (1,929 ft) and Sv. Nikola (also called Sv. Mikul) at 557 m (1,827 ft).
The total coastline of the island is 112.7 km (70.0 mi). According to Ptolemy, the Romans called
this island Apsorrus (Ancient Greek: Ἄψορρος). In 2011, Losinj
had 9,587 inhabitants.
