The
Đa Nhim Hydroelectric Power Station is on the Đa Nhim River, in Lâm Đồng
Province. The construction, with funding from the Japanese government, started
in April 1961 and was finished in January 1964. Electricity produced here
supplied the central region of Vietnam but was unable to reach the large
industrial centers in Saigon
and Biên Hòa,
which had to rely on oil for electricity generation. The dam is located at an
approximate altitude of 1,000 m (3,280 ft) above sea level, and is about 1,500
m (4,920 ft) long and 38 m (124.6 ft) high. The water volume of the reservoir
is 165 million m³.
