Jølster is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, established on January 1, 1838. It was located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord, on the shores of a clear green lake named Jølstravatnet. The administrative center was the village of Skei. Agriculture was the largest industry in the municipality. The main attraction in Jølster was the scenery, with easy access to the glaciers Grovabreen, Jostedalsbreen (the largest glacier in continental Europe), and Myklebustbreen. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the municipality had an area of 671 km2 (259 sq mi) and its population was 3,047.
