The “Mikhail Somov” (‘Михаил Сомов’) is a Research/Survey Vessel of 138 m (453 ft) length, built in 1975 in Kherson Shipyard (Ukraine, Soviet Union), now sailing under the flag of Russia. It is based in Arkhangelsk. On March 15, 1985, during the supply operations of the Soviet Russkaya Antarctic Station, the ship was trapped in the ice 120 km (394 mi) from the coast, and it did not get out of that situation until July 26. The stamp commemorates that fact.
