Shaki Waterfall (Armenian: Շաքիի ջրվեժ) is located in Zangezur Mountains, in Syunik Province, south of the country. It is formed by the Vorotan River, and has a height of 18 m (59 ft). The waterfall is in a protected area, and creates a deep gorge with caves and rocky niches on its slopes. There are remains of Paleolithic settlements in the vicinity. In the 1990s, a small hydroelectric power station was built nearby, to which part of the water that fed the waterfall was diverted; in 2017, the Armenian government decided that, at least during the tourist season, the water would flow completely through the waterfall for most of the day.
