Stelvio
National Park (Italian: Parco nazionale dello Stelvio; German: Nationalpark
Stilfser Joch), established in 1935, is located in northeast Italy, and
covers part of the regions Trentino-Alto
Adige/Südtirol and Lombardy,
in 24 municipalities. It has borders with the Swiss National Park,
Adamello
Brenta Natural Park, and Adamello Regional
Park; Together, these parks comprise 400,000 hectares (1,500 sq mi) of
protected natural environment in the heart of the Alps. The park includes an
extensive territory of valleys and high mountains, ranging from 650 m (2,130
ft) to 3,905 m (12,812 ft) in height. In its territory there are large forests,
agricultural areas, mountain farms, farmhouses and inhabited towns. In the Park
you can find deer, chamois, roe deer, mountain goats, marmots, foxes, stoats,
squirrels, hares, badgers and weasels, among other animals.
